An illustrated guide for Americans (and their government) to socialist Cuba
In this wonderfully drawn cartoon, you leaf through the Cuban history of Columbus' "discovery" of the island until the first decade of the revolution that overthrew Batista. It's such a big job to introduce such a large number of characters, the villains from Spain and later from Washington, their puppets in Havana and the heroes on the island, but Rius does it brilliantly and not only draws cartoons, but a floor plan of around 100 years of Cuban history. The main achievements of the early years of the revolution are described in detail.
RIUS, pseudonym of Eduardo del Rio, was born in Michoacan, Mexico, in 1934. His work has been published in the main newspapers and magazines in Mexico, where he was voted the best editorial cartoonist in 1959. He later received the top prize at the International Caricature Salon in Montreal, Canada. He is internationally known for his political comics.
